This nursing home in Ireland is the most recent commercial project of its kind. It consists of 50 bedrooms, grouped into two separate buildings over two floors. People live in small groups like families. Each group has its own facilities like dining room and living room, even with fireplaces to create a homely feeling.
The two residential buildings are connected to an administration building which houses the management, therapy rooms, a library, a chapel, an arts and crafts room and, of course a large lounge, called the Focal Point. There is also a large commercial kitchen in the basement.
The entire complex is heated by two tandem geothermal heat pumps. There is also no air conditioning because the smart construction, with protective roof overhangs and exterior blinds, provide enough shade to keep the building naturally cool.
